We Are Make it!
With creativity at our core, we're built upon sound educational theory, are child centred and believe in unconditional positive regard.
Awakening Creativity Changes Lives
After many years teaching disaffected pupils to make things, to work through difficulties to produce beautiful and practical solutions, we have observed the change that awakening their creativity has made to their lives and their learning.
Social and Emotional Support
The Make it! team aims to support the social and emotional development of students through our creative projects and through a bespoke programme of offsite activities and challenges.
Our Team
We know the sense of achievement that using hand skills to solve problems with materials brings and are passionate about sharing those skills.
I’m a qualified teacher who has spent nearly 30 years working with young people on the margins of the mainstream classroom. I’ve run an aid work project in Romania, been a head of department in Dorset and been deputy head of a PRU in Somerset, but what I’ve always done is teach young people to make things.
Helping students to develop practical skills and supporting them as they produce high quality items has been at the core of a very satisfying career. I started Make it! to support young people who for a variety of reasons need something a bit different in their educational programme.
I’m passionate about the young people I work with and know that enabling them to be creative, productive learners can help them to believe in themselves and increase engagement in their wider learning experience.
I’m a qualified Forest School leader and creative craftswoman passionate about working with natural materials. I have delivered arts projects with young people from primary age right through to college students and love working with all materials from clay to card and willow to wood.
I like getting to know my students and am always prepared to make time to listen to them. I am passionate about teaching young people creative skills and building self-esteem by helping to develop confidence in their own abilities.
I am always excited to discover new craft skills and work with new materials. In my work with Make it! I hope to inspire the young people to develop a similar desire to learn. Making has brought me so much pleasure in my life, I believe it can make a real difference to theirs.
